16 Days Kailash Mansarovar Yatra (via Lhasa) – 2026 Year of the Horse

We submit your passport to the Chinese Embassy. You visit Pashupatinath and Swayambhunath. You relax in Kathmandu.

The visa takes time. You have a free day. You can shop for gear in Thamel or visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square.

This is a spectacular flight. You fly over Everest and Kanchenjunga. We land at Gonggar Airport. We drive 1 hour to Lhasa city. You must rest today to adjust.

We visit two big monasteries named Drepung and Sera. You see how the monks live and study. We explore more of the city.

We visit Drepung Monastery, once the largest in the world. In the afternoon, we watch the monks debating at Sera Monastery.

We drive via Yamdrok Lake. The water is turquoise blue. We see the Karola Glacier. We arrive in Shigatse, the second-largest city.

We visit Tashilhunpo Monastery in the morning. Then we start the long drive to Saga. The landscape changes to open plains.

We drive 450 km. You catch your first view of Mount Kailash. We reach the holy lake. You can perform Puja on the shore.

We spend the morning at the lake. After lunch, we drive a short distance to Darchen. We prepare for the trek.

We walk 12 km. The trail is gentle. You sleep directly in front of the North Face of Kailash. It is a magical night.

We cross the highest pass. It is tough but rewarding. We descend past the Emerald Lake (Gauri Kund). We sleep at Zuthulpuk.

We walk the final 10 km. Our bus collects us. We drive back to Saga town for a hot shower and good sleep.

We drive south towards the Nepal border. The air gets thicker and warmer. You will sleep very well tonight.

We cross the Friendship Bridge. We enter Nepal. We drive 7 hours back to Kathmandu. We celebrate the trip at dinner.
