Kailash Yatra 2026 Guide
The Ultimate Guide to Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026: Year of the Horse
Mount Kailash is not just a mountain. It is the centre of the universe for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bon. Every year, thousands of pilgrims travel to Tibet for this holy darshan.
But 2026 is different.
2026 is the “Year of the Horse”. This event happens only once every 12 years. It is the most auspicious time to visit. This guide explains everything you need to know about the Yatra in 2026.
Why is 2026 Special?
In Tibetan belief, the Year of the Horse is the year of Mount Kailash. It is said that Lord Shiva and the Buddha are most present this year.
The spiritual rule is simple: “One Kora (circle) around Kailash in 2026 equals Twelve Koras in any other year.”
You earn 12 times the merit for the same effort. Because of this, pilgrims from all over the world will come. Permits and hotels will sell out fast. You must plan early.
Which Route Should You Choose?
We offer four distinct ways to reach the holy mountain. Choose the one that fits your health, budget, and time.
1. The Classic Route (Most Popular)
This is the standard overland journey. You drive from Kathmandu to the Kerung border and up to the Tibetan plateau. It is the most affordable option. The gradual climb helps your body adjust to the altitude.
- Best For: Budget travelers and groups.
- Duration: 14 Days.

2. The Helicopter Route (Fastest)
This route is for those with limited time or senior citizens. You fly from Nepalgunj to Simikot and take a helicopter to the border. It avoids days of bumpy roads. However, flights depend heavily on the weather.
- Best For: Seniors and time-pressed travelers.
- Duration: 11 Days.

3. The Cultural Route (Most Comfortable)
Fly directly into Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. Visit the Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple. You spend 3 days acclimatizing in luxury before driving to Kailash. This is the most comfortable way to travel.
- Best For: Culture lovers and luxury seekers.
- Duration: 16 Days.

4. The Expert Route (Hardest)
This is for the toughest pilgrims. You complete the Outer Kora first. Then, you enter the inner sanctuary to trek around Nandi Parvat. You go to the base of the South Face (Charan Sparsh).
- Best For: Fit trekkers and serious spiritual seekers.
- Duration: 17 Days.

Important Rules for 2026
The Chinese government has strict rules for the Yatra. We handle the paperwork, but you must follow these steps.
1. The Group Visa: You cannot travel alone. You must be on a Group Visa. We collect your original passport in Kathmandu. We need 3 working days to process this visa. Do not book your return flight too early.
2. The Biometrics. You must visit the Visa Centre in Kathmandu in person. They will take your photo and fingerprints. This is mandatory for every pilgrim.
3. Age Limits The general age limit is 18 to 70 years. If you are over 70, you need a doctor’s note. You must be fit enough to walk at high altitudes.
How We Keep You Safe
High altitude is the biggest risk on this trip. The air at Dolma La Pass (5,600m) is very thin. We take safety seriously.
- Oxygen: We carry oxygen cylinders on every bus.
- Gamow Bag: We bring a pressure bag to treat severe altitude sickness.
- Oximeters: The guide checks your oxygen level every morning and night.
- Experience: Our Sherpas know the signs of sickness. They will help you descend if needed.
Food and Accommodation
Many people worry about food in Tibet. You do not need to worry with us.
- Indian Kitchen: We bring our own cooks from Nepal.
- Fresh Meals: We serve hot Roti, Rice, Dal, and Sabzi.
- Strict Vegetarian: All food is pure vegetarian. We can provide Jain food (no onion/garlic) if you ask.
- Hotels: In cities like Saga, we use hotels with attached bathrooms. In remote places like Dirapuk, we use mud guesthouses. These are basic but warm.
When to Book?
For 2026, demand is extreme. The Full Moon dates (Purnima) in May, June, July, and August are the peak times.
